Iberdrola, within the framework of the recovery, transformation and resilience plan published by the Spanish Government, and taking into consideration the hydrogen roadmap, has promoted the creation of a renewable hydrogen cluster for sectoral integration that spatially concentrates large-scale production, transformation and consumption, displacing fossil materials.
The objectives of the cluster will be the following:
- Construction of a high capacity electrolyser for the production of renewable hydrogen for direct supply to local industrial consumers.
- Electricity should be supplied from renewable power generation facilities dedicated exclusively to the project or, alternatively, from the signing of power purchase agreements (PPAs) with newly constructed facilities.
- Integration of renewable hydrogen supply within the processes and the supply chain in companies belonging to a minimum number of activity sectors (promoting a growing readaptation of their business models and displacing hydrogen consumption of fossil origin) to replace in each of them a minimum of 5% of their annual hydrogen consumption and, combined, consume the majority of the project's annual hydrogen production.
- Innovative transport, hydrogen storage and final supply solutions that minimise environmental impact.
- Integration of renewable hydrogen supply in a minimum number of transport modes.
- Creation of official training programmes specifically dedicated to hydrogen technologies, including vocational and university training.
Cetil, as an industrial company with a strong innovative character, has been invited to take part in this project. Undoubtedly, Cetil's developments in recent years in alternative fuels and its recent incursions into the field of hydrogen vehicle supply have been decisive for its participation.
