Cetil leads the research and development of a compressed hydrogen measurement system for industrial applications with CDTI-ERDF support

In our ongoing commitment to innovation and a more sustainable future, we have received a Research and Development grant from the Centre for Technological Development and Innovation (CDTI), co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) 2021-2027. The objective of the project is the development of an advanced prototype that will allow us to design a new universal industrial hydrogen measurement system, essential for distribution and transport to secondary locations after generation.

At Cetil we have set ourselves a clear objective: to overcome the limitations of conventional hydrogen pumps. We want to offer advanced solutions that allow the loading and unloading of tube trailers or MEGC (Multiple-Element Gas Containers) for the transport of compressed hydrogen, as well as the efficient supply of large trains and ships, strategic sectors in the global energy transition.

To achieve this goal, we are working on developing a prototype of an industrial measurement system that guarantees precision in legal transactions, integrating key features such as control of the loading process through the ME4000 electronic calculator and the possibility of applying international high-flow fuelling protocols. All of this is designed to be installed in areas classified as having an explosion risk.

The development of this prototype represents a significant technological challenge, not only because it has to go beyond the state of the art, but also because it is an emerging sector in constant evolution. However, we have the experience and knowledge necessary to take on this challenge. Our active participation in national and international committees, such as ISO TC197, CEN TC268 or UNE CTN181, positions us as a benchmark in the design of innovative solutions of this nature.

Thanks to this research and development project, we will create solutions that improve the filling time of large tanks, optimising logistics processes. This is an advanced technology that will help position hydrogen as a true energy vector and a viable, sustainable alternative.

After accumulating more than 70 years of experience with H2, we are convinced that hydrogen will be key in the transition towards a cleaner and more efficient energy model. For this reason, we are very proud to lead a project that promotes the development of innovative solutions, setting up the future of mobility at a global level.
