Galicia, Miami and Madrid: the most recent destinations for our CETIL. After securing a place on the national team that will represent Spain at the 2026 Snipe World Championship, Martín Bermúdez and Beatriz Díaz have achieved a first place as the top international crew in US waters, a bronze medal at home, and a second and fourth place in the two Galician championships they have competed in over the last few months.
After a nine-hour flight, the Spanish duo arrived at the Coconut Grove Yacht Club in Miami to compete in nine races over three days against more than forty boats from Brazil, Argentina, the United States, Portugal, Canada and Paraguay. On Thursday it was already clear the championship would be demanding, with winds exceeding twenty knots throughout all race days.
CETIL racing team managed to secure top-three finishes in three races despite being one of the lightest crews in the fleet. After nine races and eighteen upwind legs requiring intense hiking, the pair stepped onto the podium as the top international crew.
A few weeks later, they headed to the Marín estuary to compete in the Las Anclas Military Championship, which celebrated its 58th edition where nearly fifty boats participated. The strong wind conditions allowed six races to be sailed, after which Team CETIL finished just one point shy of the podium and as the second mixed crew overall.
The Iberian Championship, alternately hosted in Spain and Portugal, was held in 2026 at the Real Club Náutico de Madrid. Among the spectators enjoying the spectacle provided by more than forty Snipes on the reservoir was our Managing Director, José Sánchez del Pozo.
The race committee completed five starts over the weekend. Martín and Beatriz managed to hold second place, tied on points with the leaders after Saturday’s racing, but the wind shifts did not work in their favour on Sunday, and they ultimately finished third overall.
During the weekend of May 16–17, our team earned its first silver medal of the 2026 season in the Ares estuary. After four races in gusty conditions and with twenty-degree wind shifts on a highly challenging racecourse, they climbed to the second step of the podium on Sunday.
They are now preparing for a new challenge next month: the Mixed European Championship, which will be held in Portuguese waters in the town of Tavira. Fair winds!
